Since so many of my larger projects are on hold right now, waiting for supplies, I've been trying out some of the blocks I've bookmarked, just for the fun of it. Last week I made this drunkard's path block, to try the block and to practice my FMQ, and this weekend.....
I saw this potholder pattern and loved the look of it, so decided to give the block a try. This greatly resembles the Firecracker Quilt by Jaybird Quilts, though on a much smaller scale, as each individual square within the block measures only 2.5". The potholder tutorial uses a printed template which can either be used to paper piece, or to foundation piece on a solid square of fabric. I chose to paper piece, which in the end was a lot of printing and cutting and planning and fiddling and tearing for such a simple block!!
And now, I really need to stop making blocks without a plan for them, as fun as they are to make. Can someone tell me when my batting is going to arrive?? The tracking info given by Connecting Threads is less than helpful! Hopefully this week. I can't wait to get back to the Chrysalis and Sparkle quilts.

That block is awesome! Definitely worth the effort. I'm sure you can find something to do with it...
Love the block! I think all of your stray blocks would make a great scrappy sampler someday. :o)
Very cool block! Bummer about the show shipment though!
Love that block!
That block is so funky...definitely looks like a lot of work though!

Those blocks look great! I'm sure you'll find something really fun to do with them. Hope your batting arrives soon!
Beautiful block!! I love it!
I'm totally out of batting but then I've got nothing to quilt yet anyway!!
The block looks fantastic. I love how wonderfully precise all your points are, very cool. I hope your batting gets to you soon.
cool block! use all the random blocks to make a sampler quilt! it would be the best one ever ;0)
That's so annoying to run out of supplies, isn't is? But you put your time to good use, that's a beautiful block.
it's adorable! make all the spontaneous "for the fun of it" blocks you want, they're fun and lovely to look at! I just ordered a bunch from connecting threads... hopefully it doesn't take forever to arrive.
looks gorgeous! I'm so impressed... that is a lot of planning! (I hate the tearing part too)
Great block. Fun and super cute.
Love this! I have worked on something similar recently. It is a small quilt that will probably end up a pillow.
