Back!

We are just back from a week long family vacation at the beach with my parents and my sister and her family.  We didn't travel far from our home at all, but it still felt very much like "getting away" and it was wonderful.

I took a heap of 1" hexagons along to work on some english paper piecing while away from my sewing machine, and as I should have expected, I didn't get nearly as many of them done as I thought I might.  That said, when I pulled all the finished ones out today the pile was bigger than I thought it would be.  I have no plans at the moment for these, but it's just fun to baste them together quickly and admire the variety of fabrics.

And finally, for now, I wanted to share the label that I made for the Frankie quilt I finished a while back.  The quilt was intended for my parents, and has now been received by them, so I can finally share!  This was my first time making a quilt label (I know, gasp!) and I'm happy with how it turned out.  I used a piece of Kona Ash, then added one narrow border and wrote on it with a permanent fabric marker.  I then followed this tutorial for fusing it to the back of the quilt, then finished it off with a ladder stitch around to make sure it was secure.  Easy!

I have a big pile of hexis made now, too! I find it so relaxing and fun to make them. I am not sure what I'll turn them into yet. Maybe something small like a journal cover or needle book.

Your label looks great! Holidays are for relaxing, so don't feel guilty about the lack of hexies progress!

How nice that you were able to get away and yet you were still productive and craft! Love your label. I just gifted two quilts today and did not label either. It is a mind game struggle for me to label a quilt. Now my mind is wondering if I should have... ;)

So... where didja go? Your pic looks a little like the Caribou (100 Mile area) but I'm guessing it's on the ocean somewhere?

That's a huge pile of hexes, regardless of how many you thought you'd get done. Plus, it's called a vacation so that you don't HAVE to get anything done. :-)
