I've decided to show the quilt that I made for my son, Owen, completed summer 2011.
I have posted about it before, but will post it again! This is the quilt, of the few I have made so far, that I struggled with the most, because it wasn't "perfect" (whatever that means in quilting!), but I pushed through and in the end, love how it turned out. And so does Owen, so that in itself makes the effort worth it!
Owen had told me the colours that he wanted (red, green, blue & orange! Wow!) and together we chose the Shoo Fly Quilt by Malka Dubrawsky after looking at many many options that he didn't like! I chose all of the fabrics from the clearance section of Connecting Threads, picking out 2 different prints from each of the colours that Owen had selected. He was disappointed when the fabric arrived because apparently he was expecting solid colours. Oops. But I got to work and turns out that all of the fabrics met with his approval by the end.
I struggled with getting my points to line up when joining the blocks, to the point of putting it all aside for quite a few months. But eventually I decided to just get the blocks together whether or not the points matched up and probably no one but me would notice, and you know, I was right. It felt so good to get this one finished!
The last touch was the pieced back (first time for that too) and a bright green binding, again at Owen's request, and finally he had a new cozy quilt for his bed. It's bright and colourful, just like he is!

oh my gosh!! i LOVE this quilt. I wanna make one just like it! just beautiful. I too struggle with perfectionism, and it's really nice to just "let go" and hope for the best and then have it turn out so nicely. I'm glad you stuck it out!

I love it, and especially like Owen's colour choices. I always say I like to be pushed creatively, challenged to work with palettes or designs that I don't immediately love, but i don't know how well I'd do with working with a family member's choices. Man, aren't I self centered!

Its a beautiful and wonderfully graphic quilt! I am so glad you finished it - it looks perfect from here, no one needs to have their nose in your quilt.
This is such a bold and wonderful quilt. Owen did a great job choosing the colors; though red, green, blue & orange must have seems quite a challenge initially. Great job.
Way cool and great for a little boy. Frankly, I think we've all learned the hard way we are our own worst critics. It's beautiful even with a minor hiccup here or there. That is what makes it truly unique, though and there will never be another just like it. :D

I love these colors, I think it looks great! Every time I get caught up with trying to make something perfect, I always tell myself "How will they know it's handmade unless there are a few imperfections?" What a lovely quilt!
