Monday update...

Happy Monday everyone! Though I'll admit I'm not a fan of Mondays or mornings, I'm trying to make the best of it. I saw that Megan featured my Sparkle Quilt top on her post today, so that was neat!! I have errands, laundry & cleaning on the agenda for today, but until then, some Monday morning updates. :)

{Modern "Quarters" Quilt}

As I've mentioned before, this one started out as the Modern Halves Quilt, until my appropriately sized scraps ran out, and they ran out FAST! So instead of slicing them into halves, I cut them in quarters and reassembled. Then last week I added the neutral borders and it's been hanging on the back of my (desperately in need of paint) bedroom door. It is small, only about 28" square. I had intended it for a baby quilt for charity, do you think it's too small for that? I've sent to Bumble Beans in the past and they say all sizes welcome, but I don't know, it just feels so...small. What do you think?

{Modern Mini Challenge Quilt}

I'm just about ready to call this one done, but so close to the end, I ran out of white thread! Grrrr. A sneak peek is all you're going to get today, as the official 'due date' for this challenge isn't until March 5th. I don't know if I can wait that long, I love how it turned out!

{Pinterest}

I went so far as to get an invite to join, then found out that you need a Facebook or Twitter account in order to join Pinterest. That was my answer right there - I don't do Facebook or Twitter and have no desire to, therefore Pinterest is a no-go for me too at the moment. But I am okay with that.

{FMQ}

I haven't been doing too much practicing since the other day when I last posted. Today I intend to go to the fabric store and see if I can find some super cheap quilting cotton in their liquidation center so I can practice on something I know I won't need for any other purpose. Thanks to everyone for your kind words of encouragement. I think once I 'get' this FMQ thing, it'll be something I'll really enjoy!

{Connecting Threads}

I just ordered a ton a batting from Connecting Threads (at my husband's insistence, seriously!), and also bought a pack of their Essential Cotton Quilting Thread to try out. Has anyone used their thread? I'm hoping it's awesome, as the price is SO good compared to what I normally pay for my trusty Gutermann thread locally.

Alright, that's about it for me for today. Time to get my day going!

I think the 28" quilt is fine. They will probably donate it to a nicu, where they request really tiny quilts. :)

I was so happy for you when I saw your sparkle quilt on Megan's blog! Yay!!

And I didn't realize you had to have FB or twitter to use pinterest? I FB, so maybe that's why I didn't realize. ;) You could just set up private FB page (where no one can find you, even through a search) and not actually use it, if you want to give pinterest a shot!

I was going to say the same thing about your little quilt, I think they need little ones for the extra small babies :)

I usually use Gutermann tread as well.
I bought from connecting threads to give it a try & I like it. My machine doesn't seem to be picky about thread (although I haven't tried FMQ with that thread yet)
I LOVE how much is on a spool. It seems to never run out & that is just so lovely! I notice a bit more lint than with the Gutermann, but it's not enough for me to stop using it.

I have used CT thread lots. Sometimes I buy the cone, and I just stick it on the back where I normally put the spool and it works like a charm. The price is amazing. I also like Gutermann when I can get it 1/2 off at Joanns. I have a Janome and have never had any problems with CT. I have had lots of snags with Coats and Clark and don't use that unless I am hand stitching binding.

Oh, most definitely have tried that thread it is wonderful, never a problem and the fabrics are not just like others; a little bit thinner maybe not for heirloom quilts if you plan to use them, but great to beat the "fabric blues" and for everyday use quilts, witch in my case that's the reason why I make them.

If you really want to donate your sweet quarters quilt, I would recommend your local hospital's preemie unit. They will have a size preference that you can find out by calling the ward. They really appreciate tiny quilts for babies in nicu. It's beautiful! Can't wait to see your mini mod quilt entry!

The Modern quarters quilt is lovely - I am sure it will be appreciated whatever the size. And looking forward to seeing more of your Modern Mini challenge quilt.......

I think your mini would make a great playmat or stroller size quilt! It's so cute.

I'm interested to hear how your Connecting Threads batting turns out!

P.S. I'm on Pinterest, but I'm not on FB or Twitter. I set up a Twitter account, signed up for Pinterest, and then deleted the Twitter acct. Worked just fine!

Just like Krista(Poppyprint) I would suggest NICU units. Michelle @ http://mychellem.blogspot.com/2012/02/littler-baby-quilts.html had a post on friday about making quilts for NICU babies.

I'm on Pinterest & signed up with my FB account. I could've signed up with my email & a new password but didn't need another password to remember. ;)

Hi Heather!
I love your sneak peak of the mini quilt!
I have used the Connecting Threads thread -works really well, except for FMQ -- with FMQ it often breaks and skips stitches on me, which is maddening!
I didn't have a FB or twitter account either, but created a FB account with my maiden name (so I don't have to fend off friend requests constantly), and never do anything with it other than log into pinterest!

Congrats on the feature! That was really cool to see!

And I don't think you need fb or twitter for Pinterest - just ignore them when you log in with email & pw.

Good reports on the thread - that's cool!

And I agree RE: your mini - if they say 'all sizes' they probably mean it - definitely worth asking!

LOVE your mini sneak peek! I haven't given the challenge a thought - yikes!

I originally ordered just a roll or two of CT's thread to try. I loved it so much I recently order one of their sets.

I'd just go ahead with your mini as-is. The NICU need small ones! Can't wait to see your modern mini for the challenge!!
