W.I.P. Wednesday

WIP Wednesday at Freshly Pieced

This week I feel like I made some decent progress. I've been working on scrap projects and haven't actually purchased fabric in quite a while. I don't have a fabric stash per se, but I had accumulated a fair amount of scraps over the last year or so since I started quilting. And now I'm feeling pretty good that I have depleted the majority of my scraps and will be looking to start something "from scratch" pretty soon. :)

Since last week I finished the above mini quilt, now happily hanging above my sewing machine. More details {here}.

I also finished this quilt top out of 2.5" square scraps. I am in love with it! It's not very big. Only about 40" square so not totally usable as a quilt for any of the sizes of humans that live in my house (ie. we have no babies here anymore!) so I'm trying to decide what to do with it. I'm considering adding borders, maybe making the patchwork off-center similar to how I finished the Modern Quarters quilt. What do you think?

Finally, today I pulled out one more batch of scraps, mostly from Sixteen Sparkles, and using this quilt by Red Pepper Quilts as inspiration I started to put together another baby quilt. I think it's going to be pretty cute! The white I'm using here is broadcloth, a poly/cotton mix, which I happened to have and wanted to use up and let's just say I won't be using it in quilting again! It distorts SO easily with pressing and piecing and I've had to do a fair bit of trimming and tugging and re-pressing. Thankfully, quilting (and washing!) tends to cover up a multitude of problems so I think it'll end up okay.

Have a good week everyone!

I love your little squares quilt!
What if you bordered it with wide borders of a coordinating solid -- off center of course! -- to create lots of negative space and really make the squares pop? This way you could turn it into a lap sized (or even twin) quilt.

You have been a scrapping fiend - awesome! Love your new hanging about your machine and yes - I think offset sounds great for your scrap attack quilt!!

Oh love your scrappy projects! That postage stamp quilt is just to die for...I think off center would be great! you could even do a thin border around and then off center it. Can't wait to see what you decide!

You could add some triangles to the edges and make a star quilt with a scrappy center. I like all the other ideas too. I have little use for smaller quilts, but little patience for piecing blocks for a larger quilt, so I love these ideas to make a smaller quilt bigger!

I think off-centered borders would be really cool with your scrappy quilt!

Your finished mini quilt is so cute! And I really love the square scraps. I think using it in an off center layout similar to your Modern Quarters quilt is a great idea.
Thanks for sharing!

Way to go on using so many scraps! I'm inspired. I'll have to start something using all of my teeny tiny scraps :)

Love the scrap quilt above your sewing machine. I've been trying to cut more of my scraps in to 2.5" squares as I finish projects and have bits left over so that I can do more scrap projects easily.
