Monday morning

It's Monday, it's raining/cloudy/cold (well, 8C so not freezing or anything, but still!), the kids are off to school and I'm still in my PJs.  Just a few things to catch up on today.  First up, a little update on my Roller Rink quilt progress.

I think I've finally 'found my stride', so to speak, and am cruising along.  This photo shows two completed strip sets, half framed in Kona Steel and half in Kona Iron, and I have a third set finished as well.  This adds up to fifty-one 4-1/2" x 16-1/2" blocks so far.

As a side note, the Kona Steel (the darker of the two frame colours) which I bought from a local quilt shop was severely off-grain.  I think I lost at least 5-6" of fabric in order to square it up.  Grrrr.  This has never happened to me before.  I have to go back and buy more....would you say something to the shop?  I'm thinking that the extra I need to purchase will probably come from the same bolt as before.

Since my last blog post (by the way, thanks to everyone for your great iPod app suggestions!  I've found some good ones) I've gotten into Instagram.  It's a lot of fun!  I've found many of you on there already but I'm sure I'm missing some of you.  If you would like to follow me you can do so by clicking on the button below or by searching for me @windingbobbins  :)

Have a good week everyone!

Ooh, that's annoying! I would probably say something. I kind of expect off-grain on stuff from the big box stores, but from quilt shops, I expect better! I don't think I've ever lost five inches, even from Joann's.

I would say something so that the shop would be aware (they don't want unhappy customers. That's a lot of precious fabric to go to waste! I love the mix of greys you are using.

I'm a big chicken, so I probably wouldn't say anything, but you should! :)

P.S. Did you get the Find My iPhone app? Handy.

How disappointing! I'd definitely say something- after all it's probably not the quilt shop's fault! Your blocks are looking great!

I really love these Comma fabrics with the greys! Such a shame about the fabric though - I would mention it to them if you are going back anyway.

Loving the comma! That will be an awesome quilt.

I am outspoken to a fault. Oh, and I come from a long line of frugal folks, too. So, yes, I would say something. Nice to see your progress on these blocks. Can't wait!

This is going to be such a fun quilt!
I agree with the others--definitely let the shop know about your fabric woes!

I was happy to see you joined IG! This quilt is looking so cute, I'm curious to see your third Kona colour. I would probably mention the grain comment to the shop, even if it's just to make sure you go home with the correct amount this time. It would be brutal to go back a third time!

Yikes - I'd let them know.

The quilt is going to be awesome! The colors are some of my favorites.
