Have It All Wallet ~ take 1

Looking back on Pinterest, I see that I had pinned the Have It All Wallet pattern 41 weeks ago (!!!!!) but it wasn't until Kristan's version really caught my eye that I decided I really wanted to give it a try.  I haven't always had success with bag patterns therefore I didn't want to go straight into using favourite fabrics.  For this first try I used some random yellow/gray FQs that I had.  I'm happy to say that the pattern came together really well so I'll definitely be going for take 2!

The pattern is quite straight forward but does have some finicky steps that really do work out well if you take it one instruction at a time, but I'll admit I was scratching my head a few times and did have to re-do a few things.  It wasn't even that anything was written poorly, more that there are many multi-step parts that need lots of attention.  The pdf download includes full size pattern pieces which I appreciate, and also gives two options for the flap style - basic curved (like I did), and scalloped.  There is also an option in the pattern for a bow to cover the snap on the outer but I'm not a bow person so I skipped it!

As you can hopefully see in the photo, there is a pocket opening in front of the zip coin pouch as well as behind, with pleats to create a lot more space. It is big enough to carry a phone (or iPod in my case!), along with cash, receipts, coupons, chequebooks, etc.  There is also a pocket behind the credit card slots.   Bottom line - TONS of space!!  Oh, also I was able to fit 2 cards in each of the card slots.

I did not top-stitch around the outside edge because I had a feeling that my machine would not be happy about the layers, but really I feel like it doesn't need it.  It pressed really nicely and has great structure with the interfacing (by the way I used heavy fusible instead of heavy sew-in) and layers of fabric that I feel like the top-stitching is truly optional and is not necessary for the wallet to keep its shape.

I would totally recommend this pattern!

I am impressed with your skilled workmanship Heather - this is a very professional looking wallet! I don't think you need to be in any hurry to make another - this is a winner!

Very nice Heather! You sound like me...testing a new pattern on fabric that isn't an all time favourite, and therefore doesn't have me in tears if I ruin it! lol!

It would never occur to me to sew my own wallet. Seems way too tricky! Yours turned out so great, I'm a little tempted. Your fabric choices are perfect!

Your wallet is beautiful and I like it better without the stitching around the outside.
