Memories

The little embroidery piece I purchased on our overseas adventure over Christmas has found its way into a quilting project, and I couldn't be happier with how it turned out.

I hummed and hawed over pretty much every aspect of this project, starting off with how to get the embroidery itself as square and as warp-free as possible, to choosing border fabrics, to how to quilt it, how much to quilt it, and what to bind it with!  Also my decision to use a double layer of batting, which had me doubting all the way till the end.

But now it's finished, it lays nice and flat (bonus!), the double layer of batting adds a really nice dimension to it and the minimal quilting is just enough.

Many of you helped in my choices along the way, so thank you!  It all works together and this project will serve as a wonderful way to remind us of our trip and the memories we made with family and new friends.

Just a few days ago, this particular spot on the wall had became home to the other wall hanging we brought back, and needing an indoor spot for photos today I swapped it out for the embroidery and I have to say, I prefer the embroidery here!  So I guess we'll see where everything eventually finds a permanent home.  :)

This turned out great. My favorite part is the quilting - that really sets it off. And the orange looks great!

Fantastic job! I love the simple quilting and the bit of pouf that the double batting gives! And the colours... just perfect!

That's beautiful! Way to get that embroidery pieced into a wonderful reminder of your trip instead of leaving it in a drawer for 10 years (ahem, I might know someone who tends to do that).

Very nice stitching! I always find minimal stitching on hand embroidery pieces usually works best. The colors are superb too!

Beautiful! I love the fabrics you chose to frame the embroidery with, Heather. Plays up the colours in the stitchery and makes a cheery finish.
