Debbie is hosting a fun event on her blog for the month of June, celebrating summer and the table. As I've said before, I don't often post recipes or food related items on my blog {in fact I have only once, here}, but I have something fun to contribute this time and couldn't pass it up. (Also, Debbie posted the prizes today and I'd sure like to be in the running!)
A number of weeks ago, my good friend Karen came over and showed me how to make pie! I had tried once before, when I was first married and was feeling ambitious and domestic, and I don't remember that it turned out very well. {don't tell anyone, but I think I used all margarine for the pastry....} This time, with Karen's recipe and encouragement, and the proper ingredients, I managed to make this Rhubarb Strawberry Pie ~ rhubarb from our garden, and strawberries from California. :)
It looks pretty, and it tasted awesome too! I will definitely be making pie again in the future, now that I know that it is do-able.
A few other little non-foody tidbits this morning.....
My sewing machine is currently on the kitchen table because I'm working on quilting a pretty large quilt and need the space. My kids don't usually pay too much attention to it when it's in its usual spot, but more than once this week I've seen one or the other of them sitting at the machine, pretending to be sewing! Here's what I saw this morning:
Owen and his favourite stuffed friends, even sporting the gloves I wear when I machine quilt! haha
And finally for today, Interweave is having their annual "Hurt Book Sale" - tons of print books and ebooks at great discounts, including some really current titles. I picked up ebook copies of "Quilting Modern" by Jacquie Gering and Katie Pedersen, and "Fresh Quilting" by Malka Dubrawsky. Be sure to check out the sale, while supplies last!

I'm so glad that you've learned how easy making pie is! I make pie all the time, but then it's my job ;-)
That looks delicious! The hubby is taking me out tonight...I think I'm going to have to order pie for dessert now :~) Thanks for the sale info also!
Yummy pie! I love to see your little guy sewing. Off to check out the book sale!
Hilarious photo of your little guy. Love the gloves! (I *just* bought Quilting Modern this week from Amazon - oh well).
That's super cute :-) My kids all want to spend some time with the sewing machine this summer.
