WIP Wednesday

My big project lately, as most of you know, is my Roller Rink quilt.  I worked so hard over the last few weeks to get the top finished and now I'm totally stalled out.  I even have it basted and ready to go but it has sit for 3 or 4 days now since basting and I haven't touched it.

I think I'm feeling nervous about the quilting.  My plan is to do a geometric overall design, like this practice piece....

....which actually wasn't too difficult but I'm nervous about starting in on it on such a large quilt.  This week....hopefully.

Also holding me back is that I was feeling like I should get my bee blocks for this month finished before I set the machine up for FMQ.  Jaclyn asked for two broken herringbone blocks, choosing one colour for each block and using different fabric strips of that colour to complete each, sashing with white.  I don't have much fabric stash at all, and my scraps aren't often conducive to cutting big enough pieces for projects such as this, so for this month I have had to make do with what I have and I hope that the blocks will be to Jaclyn's liking.  My pink block is finished:

And my light/medium aqua block is in the works (the fabric on the left is much more aqua than the photo shows....I think it was on the shadowy side of my picture...):

That's it for me this week.  Hope you are all doing well!

Heather, you'll be fine! Just take a deep breath and start! If it doesn't look good, all you'll have to do is some 'unsewing'...... Go on, you can do it!

Love your quilting pattern, it will look great, don't worry!

Give it a try. It'll be just fine :-) I also like your blocks, pretty.

Heather having seen your recent FMQ efforts I would not be nervous! You'll do an awesome job - and as Susan said, you can always unpick if you're not happy. I think we are always our worst critic though. Have trust in your ability!

Love the bee blocks too!

Yes, I love the quilting on the practice piece. It will be awesome! The fabrics for the broken herringbone are fantastic.

Perhaps you could tackle one section at a time. It looks like you have the pattern down pat. Go for it! We're all cheering for you

You've done a fantastic job on your practice run, just jump in! You're going to rock it! Super nice bee block as well, can't wait to see it in aqua!

I love your comma quilt - I know what you mean about worrying about a fmq pattern on a big quilt - just jump in a go for it - it will look stunning! Good luck!

Yes - that FMQ pattern is perfect! You just gotta jump in and start (and accept that you will get better over the course of the quilt). My advice for FMQing a large quilt is to not do too much at once. I try to limit myself to 3 bobbins a day otherwise I get crazy sore neck and shoulders - not good!

I agree the practice looks amazing. Don't let the bigness freak you out, you will do a great job and once it's done you'll wonder why you worried! Really. Take your time and enjoy it!

I love the Roller Rink quilt. The colors really pop and I think your quilting choice is a good one.

When I get stuck with the quilting, and I've let it sit for a couple days, I end up jumping in there anyway. The quilt won't quilt itself.
